Two more weeks left in Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month

In honor of Adopt-A-Senior Pet Month, please read the story of "Patches," a 14-year-old terrier mix who came to the Escondido Humane Society in July. She was named Patches because she had quite a few bare spots in her coat. She has cataracts and was incontinent. She went right into foster care, where she was well taken care of and loved. But the sad reality is that not as many people want to adopt a dog who is her age, so we just weren’t sure how long it would take for her forever family to find her. Luckily for Patches, her new mom was looking for a dog just like her – one who is a little older, but who is just as deserving of a loving life as her younger counterparts. As you will see from the below message, and the above picture of her at home, Patches hit the jackpot when she was welcomed into her new mom's life - and her new mom couldn't be happier with her new companion:

"I just wanted to give you a little update on Patches. Her new name is Louise, but I call her Ouiser (sounds like "wheezer". . . don't know if you've seen "Steel Magnolias," but it's a character from that). Anyway, she's still doing very well. I gave her a bit of a haircut today; I think it looks a lot better, and she'll be more comfortable. She gets cold, so I had to get her a jacket for the mornings and evenings - it didn't seem like her long hair was working very well with the jacket coming on and off all the time. ... Now, you wouldn't believe it, but she's actually hard to capture on film. I've tried to take some pictures of her, but she just doesn't stop moving!"

The Escondido Humane Society is having an adoption special for senior pets in the month of November to help them all find happy endings like Louise's (aka Patches). Seniors (ages 7 and older) can be adopted for just $27.50, which includes microchip, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and more. Call the Escondido Humane Society at (760) 888-2247 for more information, or visit us online at http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.
