Escondido Humane Society Pet of the Week

This week's Escondido Humane Society Pet of the Week is Wyatt. Here's what he wants you to know about him:

Hi, I'm Wyatt, a 3-year-old male domestic shorthair mix (ID # 42247). I am a wonderful all-around companion! I love to play and be silly, but at the end of the day I just want to be sitting on your lap and spending time with you. I am always purring and content. I will be part of the Escondido Humane Society’s Black Friday adoption special this weekend. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, you can adopt me for half-off my regular adoption fee - that's only 55! My adoption fee includes microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, neuter and vet exam. For more information, call (760) 888-2247 or log on to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/. The Escondido Humane Society Adoption Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Skip the lines this Black Friday - Adopt a pet instead!

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. But here at the Escondido Humane Society, we are asking everyone to skip the lines and come to the shelter to take advantage of our own Black Friday deals.

Our twist on Black Friday is this: Adopt any pet with black in its coat for half-off its regular adoption fee on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The animal doesn't have to have a full black coat. Last year, the Escondido Humane Society adopted 24 animals during its one-day Black Friday adoption special. Because of its huge success, the adoption special will be extended to include the entire weekend this year!

Regular adoption fees are $160 for puppies and kittens up to 6 months; $110 for adult dogs and cats (6 months and up); $55 for senior dogs and cats (7 years and up); and $45 for all bunnies.

For more information, call (760) 888-2247 or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.

Luna update

Remember Luna, the 2-year-old Chihuahua who used a wheelchair to get around (http://escondidohumanesociety.blogspot.com/2009/11/special-dog.html)? Well, today she was officially adopted! Her foster mom loves her too much to part with her, so she made it official today and took her home for good. But that's not all: Luna can now walk without her special wheelchair!

Escondido Humane Society Pet of the Week

This week's Escondido Humane Society Pet of the Week is Lizzy. Here's what she wants you to know about her:

I may be 12 years old, but I am still loving life! I am very mellow and just want to lie at your feet all day. I love to go for walks and just be loved. I am currently in foster care with a wonderful family with two children and a friendly dog. Because I am a senior dog, my adoption fee is only $27 during the month of November! I am already spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, dewormed, defleaed, and my adoption comes with a free vet wellness certificate that you can use within two weeks of adopting me. Also, Dogtopia of San Marcos will dontate a gift card for a free spa treatment valued at $35! I am the total package! If you are interested in learning more about me, please contact Escondido Humane Society Adult Dog Foster Care Coordinator Julie at julieh@escondidohumanesociety.org or ehfosterjulie@aol.com or call her Escondido Humane Society work number at (760) 594-7605 today.

Two more weeks left in Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month

In honor of Adopt-A-Senior Pet Month, please read the story of "Patches," a 14-year-old terrier mix who came to the Escondido Humane Society in July. She was named Patches because she had quite a few bare spots in her coat. She has cataracts and was incontinent. She went right into foster care, where she was well taken care of and loved. But the sad reality is that not as many people want to adopt a dog who is her age, so we just weren’t sure how long it would take for her forever family to find her. Luckily for Patches, her new mom was looking for a dog just like her – one who is a little older, but who is just as deserving of a loving life as her younger counterparts. As you will see from the below message, and the above picture of her at home, Patches hit the jackpot when she was welcomed into her new mom's life - and her new mom couldn't be happier with her new companion:

"I just wanted to give you a little update on Patches. Her new name is Louise, but I call her Ouiser (sounds like "wheezer". . . don't know if you've seen "Steel Magnolias," but it's a character from that). Anyway, she's still doing very well. I gave her a bit of a haircut today; I think it looks a lot better, and she'll be more comfortable. She gets cold, so I had to get her a jacket for the mornings and evenings - it didn't seem like her long hair was working very well with the jacket coming on and off all the time. ... Now, you wouldn't believe it, but she's actually hard to capture on film. I've tried to take some pictures of her, but she just doesn't stop moving!"

The Escondido Humane Society is having an adoption special for senior pets in the month of November to help them all find happy endings like Louise's (aka Patches). Seniors (ages 7 and older) can be adopted for just $27.50, which includes microchip, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and more. Call the Escondido Humane Society at (760) 888-2247 for more information, or visit us online at http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.

Special dog

Every animal that comes to the Escondido Humane Society touches us in some way. But every now and then one comes to us that really tugs at our heart. One such dog is Luna, a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix. Luna came to the Escondido Humane Society when a good Samaritan picked her up off the streets in Escondido, badly injured from what appeared to be an attack by a larger animal. But that wasn't all: Luna was also pregnant with three puppies. She had to undergo an emergency C-section, and, sadly, her puppies were too premature and didn't make it.

But that wasn't the end of her story: Luna can no longer use her back legs as a result of her injuries from the attack. Luna was quickly taken under our wings, and she is now in a loving foster home where she is beginning to thrive. What about her back legs, you ask? Take a look at the following photos to see how Luna is now getting around.
