Escondido Humane Society Pets of the Week

We have many wonderful animals looking for good homes, and I would like to start featuring them here on the blog every week. This week's special pets are Snowflake, Dolly, Sheena, Kate, and Jelly Bean and Truffle.

Snowflake
Hi everyone, I'm Snowflake, a beautiful 6-year-old pit bull mix. I am super smart and eager to please, so with some obedience training I will be the most devoted dog ever! I already have a few tricks up my sleeve, including sitting on command. I get along with other dogs and have a few playmates here at the shelter that I LOVE to play with. If I am going to have a canine companion, I would prefer a bigger dog, though. I am an energetic girl and would make the perfect hiking or running partner. But don't worry, I also have a couch potato side and would be a terrific snuggle buddy at the end of the day! Adopt Snowflake at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. Call (760) 888-2247 or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ for more information.

Dolly
"I said my name's, Dolly, well, my name's, Dolly, It will be so nice to find a home where I belong!" OK, so those arent really the words to "Hello Dolly," but I had to rewrite them to match me, Dolly, a 4-year-old mover and shaker awaiting my forever home. I have tons of energy and really love to play and run. All the volunteers here just love me and my silly ways, and you should see the way I wiggle with excitement when I see my friends coming to take me out! I'm super smart and learn quickly, so obedience training will be a breeze with me. I can get a little possessive of my toys and treats (I had to fight for food in my past ... oh, it's a long story), so I'd probably do best in a home with no small children. I would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Don't get me wrong, I like some dogs, but I'm picky about who I share my people's attention with. Stop by soon and sing me a tune, maybe something like: "You're lookin' swell, Dolly ... I can tell, Dolly; You're still glowin' ... you're still crowin' ... you're still goin' strong!" Adopt Dolly at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. Call (760) 888-2247 or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ for more information.
Sheena
Visit our Adoption Center, and you cannot miss Sheena, a 3-year-old spayed domestic shorthair. She's become our official greeter! Sheena is a smart, social and absolutely lovable cat who never ceases to make us laugh. Every morning, she makes her rounds and visits all staff and volunteers, meowing in each office and nuzzling our faces before her morning snooze. Sheena had a rough start in life. It took her quite some time to come out of her shell, but boy, has she ever. Sheena enjoys taunting dogs (she knows the exact length of a leash, stands one additional inch away, and meows) and is picky with her cat friends. Isnt that the cat for you? Adopt Sheena at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. Call (760) 888-2247 or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ for more information.

Kate
Hi! I'm Kate, and I love to give love as much as I recieve it! I was found in Poway and came into the shelter as a stray. I would do best in a cat-savvy home. I am best in a house with no small children and no other kitties. I am truly a princess. If you're interested in getting a lovely kitty, stop by the Escondido Humane Society, call (760) 888-2247, or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.

Jelly Bean and Truffle
Jelly Bean is a 9-month-old Dutch mix. She is devoted to her sister, Truffle, so they must go as a pair. Jelly Bean and Truffle have been waiting for their new home since April. They are sweet girls who are a little bit shy, but they like to be petted and tolerate being held. They really like playing in their Cottontail Cottage and would like to be housed in an x-pen setup. They will do best in a quieter household and should do well with a gentle dog and cats. Jelly Bean and Truffle are at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. For more information, call (760) 888-2247 or go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.

Paws in the Park, bazaar are coming up

Paws in the Park is just around the corner (it's on March 29 this year), so if you haven't registered yet be sure to go to www.firstgiving.com/ehs to start your fundraising page. Every walker will make a difference, and every dollar raised will help animals awaiting a home at the Escondido Humane Society. The event is sure to be a howling good time, with incentive prizes starting at $50 raised and games for people and pets alike!

We also invite you to join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, for our special Paws in the Park fundraising bazaar. All Paws in the Park participants and teams are invited to host a booth (at no cost to them!) to help raise money for their efforts. Call Dorothea at (760) 751-4129 or e-mail Boughdadly@aol.com for an application.

We hope to see you at the bazaar on Feb. 22 and at Paws on the Park on March 29!

Beautiful pet portraits - and the proceeds benefit EHS!

A wonderful local artist, Annie Graham, recently contacted us about painting portraits of our adoptable animals. As soon as we saw her work, we jumped at the chance to forge a relationship with her. To say the paintings are beautiful would be an understatement! Annie has a true gift for capturing the animals' emotions. Just look at the portrait she painted of adoptable dog Casey!

Annie will paint your animal - from a photo that she accepts or from one that she takes (she prefers that option) - for a fixed price donation to the Escondido Humane Society. She will donate the supplies and work and payment is made to us. So, you can get an amazing keepsake portrait of your pet while helping our animals. How great is that!

Annie loves animals and she loves to paint, and her reward (besides helping the animals) is that she paints what she wants to paint, how she wants to paint it. A portrait of one animal close-up (without the frame) is $100; more animals or scenes will require a quote. If for any reason you do not like your portrait, there is no obligation to accept it. If you would like a portrait, let EHS staff know so we can get you in contact with Annie.

Busy weekend

The Escondido Humane Society has four – count ’em, four – events this weekend! Phew, it makes me tired just thinking about it, but the animals more than deserve the efforts. Here’s what's happening Saturday, Jan. 17:

There are two separate outreaches coinciding with the new movie "Hotel for Dogs." Stop by and see us at Regal Cinema in Escondido and Edwards Theater in San Marcos.

We also are having two outreach events on Saturday. Meet some of our fosters at Kahoots in Rancho Bernardo (11965-A Bernardo Plaza Drive) or stop by Kahoots East (1535 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido) for some barbecue, bluegrass music and special dogs looking for good homes! Check out the events calendar on our Web site to stay in the know about our upcoming events. Entering the social scene

Welcome to the Escondido Humane Society blog! We are already on MySpace and Facebook (check us out if you haven't already), so I thought a blog was a natural next step to getting us into the social scene. Check back often to stay up-to-date on all the good things happening at the Escondido Humane Society.
